1. About Us

Chapter34 Retreats (“we”, “us”, “our”) is a trading name of Chapter 34 Limited of 32-34 Brunswick Road, Shoreham-By-Sea, England, BN43 5WB. Company number 14794530.

Chapter34 Retreats organises reading retreats in natural, calming locations both in the UK and abroad. When you make a booking with us, you (“the guest”, “you”, “your”) agree to the following Terms & Conditions.

2. Booking & Payment

  • A non-refundable deposit is required at the time of booking to secure your place.
  • Your booking is only confirmed once the deposit has been received.
  • The remaining balance must be paid in full by the date specified in your booking confirmation.
  • If the balance is not paid by the due date, we reserve the right to cancel your booking and retain the deposit.

3. Pricing

  • All prices are listed in GBP unless otherwise stated.
  • Prices include accommodation and any inclusions explicitly listed in the retreat details.
  • Prices do not include travel to or from the retreat unless clearly specified.

4. Accommodation & Third-Party Venues

  • Retreats take place at properties owned and managed by third parties.
  • These venues have their own terms, conditions, and house rules which you agree to follow during your stay.
  • We are not liable for:
    • the acts or omissions of the property owners or managers
    • any issues relating to the accommodation itself
    • any loss, damage, or injury occurring at the venue that is outside our control

5. Cancellations by You

  • Deposits are non-refundable.
  • Cancellations made after the balance payment date are non-refundable.
  • If you cancel before the balance due date, any payments made beyond the deposit may be refundable at our discretion, depending on whether we are able to fill your place.
  • You may transfer your place to another person if agreed in writing by us.

6. Cancellations or Changes by Us

We reserve the right to cancel or make changes to a retreat due to circumstances beyond our control, including but not limited to:

  • insufficient bookings
  • venue unavailability
  • extreme weather
  • illness
  • force majeure events

In the event of cancellation by us:

  • You will receive a full refund of all monies paid to Chapter34 Retreats.
  • We are not responsible for any travel or other external costs you may have incurred.

7. Travel

  • Travel to and from the retreat is not included unless explicitly stated.
  • All travel arrangements are your responsibility.
  • We are not liable for delays, cancellations, or issues relating to your travel.

8. Off-Site Activities

  • Any travel or activities undertaken away from the retreat venue that are not organised by us are done entirely at your own risk.
  • We accept no responsibility for injury, loss, or damage arising from independently arranged activities or transport.

9. Health, Wellbeing & Personal Responsibility

  • Our retreats are designed to be calm, restorative experiences, and guests are expected to behave respectfully towards others and the environment.
  • You are responsible for ensuring that the retreat is suitable for your personal health and mobility needs.
  • You must inform us in advance of any medical conditions, allergies, or dietary requirements that may affect your participation.

10. Insurance

We strongly recommend that you take out appropriate travel and cancellation insurance to cover:

  • illness
  • travel disruption
  • personal belongings
  • inability to attend

11. Personal Belongings

You are responsible for your own belongings during the retreat. We accept no liability for loss, theft, or damage to personal items.

12. Behaviour

We reserve the right to ask a guest to leave the retreat without refund if their behaviour:

  • is unsafe
  • is disruptive
  • breaches venue rules
  • negatively affects other guests

13. Photography & Media

We may occasionally take photographs for promotional purposes. You will always be asked for consent before identifiable images are used.

14. Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law:

  • Our liability is limited to the amount you have paid for the retreat.
  • We are not liable for indirect or consequential losses.

Nothing in these Terms excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence.

15. Data Protection

Your personal information will only be used for the administration of your booking and will never be shared with third parties for marketing purposes.

16. Governing Law

These Terms & Conditions are governed by the laws of England and Wales
